This is an old article about TextPander (now TextExpander):
I found a kick ass utility for OSX today. It's called Textpander. It's a little thing that "watches" you type. When you type a pre-defined string on the keyboard, ANYWHERE, it instantly replaces the text with the string you defined for the "shortcut". I just made this entry, and I defined a thing to quickly add the code that I have for the image in this post. In the old days, I would have to tag it all out by hand. Woohoo! I love useful applications!
